Join the San Francisco Berniecrats health care group for a community presentation in the SF Richmond library on single-payer universal health care and the Healthy California Act, SB 562! Members Tom Koren and Jamie Sheldon will give an introductory presentation on both of these topics, and will cover common single-payer myths that you may hear in the media.
The Healthy California Act, SB 562, passed the State Senate last June, but was shelved in the Assembly Rules Committee soon after by Speaker Anthony Rendon for no good reason. Rendon’s decision came out of the blue; he did not consult healthcare advocates and SB 562 proponents prior to shelving the bill. Instead, his delay tactics have greatly benefited the insurance and pharmaceutical companies that profit immensely off of our current system. By shelving SB 562, Rendon prevented any debate and amendments in Assembly policy committees, and most Democratic Party state legislators have done nothing to take him on.
It will take a groundswell of well-informed grassroots support for us to win universal health care in California. Join this meeting to find out more, and then help us organize to pass SB 562!
