Shomrei Torah’s 2018 Social Action Goes to the Movies Film Series
“FIX IT – Healthcare at the Tipping Point” Film and Panel.
On Saturday March 17 at 7pm the “Social Action Goes to the Movies” 2018 film series presents “FIX IT – Healthcare at the Tipping Point”. The film will be shown at Congregation Shomrei Torah 2600 Bennett Valley Road in Santa Rosa,
This documentary reaches across the political and ideological divide to look at the advantages and challenges of a Single Payer Healthcare system. Our expensive and dysfunctional health care system damages our economy, suffocates our businesses, discourages physicians, and negatively impacts the nation’s health, while remaining unaffordable for a third of our citizens. Americans spend more money on health care than any other nation. Businesses are beginning to see a single payer system as a way to hold onto jobs here, while remaining competitive internationally.
Following the film, a panel of experts will discuss how California can lead the nation by creating a Single Payer system through SB 562, the “Healthy California Act”.
Panelists include Deborah Burger RN, co- president of the California Nurses Association and a practicing nurse at Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa, Dan Geiger co-director of Business Alliance for a Healthy California, Pilar Schiavo Organizer for Healthy California and Dr. Nick Anton, Physicians for A National Health Program.
The primary goal of the series is to inform the audience of critical issues and empower people to take action for positive change. The theme for 2018 is “Democracy Is Not A Spectator Sport!”
